Op dnd homebrew races11/9/2023 ![]() Pixies would lose land speed due to size (Gnome, Halfling, Dwarf), yet gain speed and a whole lot of versatility due to flying, so I felt keeping them at baseline was balanced, and made land speed 20 to match past editions and there being two size category differences.īut enough about speed, the main problem with the flight rules presented is they are treated as spell like abilities rather than movement, none of the other races have non spell abilities that increase at higher levels, and the exhaustion and strength bit is tacked on arbitrarily, races with flight can fly without effort, and exhaustion should only apply where it would also apply to walking. In my opinion, any new race should be consistent with the 5e wotc races, which means base effective movement speed 30, and only a +/-5 applied due to racial shenanigans. The tiny thing is a reasonable extrapolation, I'll have to contact customer service or wait for the DMG to see if it's legit, its the sort of loose thing that wotc might allow (Small or smaller gain disadvantage with heavy weapons only, remember gear size is a variant rule phb144) We'll keep working on it, what did you think of pixie dust? Pixies running that fast sounds really funny to me. ![]() I learned to play in 3.5 where small creatures got 20, not 25 move speed. I don't think it makes sense that pixies have 20 land movement speed. Of course if they're spellcasters, tiny is almost completely irrelevant. If they can only use light weapons, which I think makes sense, then they are going to have terrible damage for most melee classes. ![]() Perhaps tiny shouldn't be a -4, but when you think about a melee class playing a pixie it makes sense. I'm thinking because it's a pixie's basic move, it's flight should only be a 1 or 1.5 max. What is it specifically about the flight rules that you don't like? Im not entirely convinced that the rules we have down are where it should be upon completion of our project. So with tiny we just took that one step further. Small creatures have disadvantage to attack with heavy weapons and attack. We based it off of the small creature and then built a little.
